Our Bodies. Our Rights. Our Celebration.

Our Bodies. Our Rights. Our celebration. Our Justice.

It’s 2020 and we’re still continuing the conversations that shift narratives around equal rights, fair treatment and justice. We’re staying vigilant and educating when and where we can. Because the reality is—we’re still in progress and this work is ongoing. The work towards justice does. Not. Stop. And we know that.

But we’ve come a long way. So let’s take a minute to thank and honor the work that’s been done so far—to celebrate the victories and justices of past years. To celebrate the resources we have and our right to decide. To celebrate us—women. Because our voices, our community and our never-backing-down attitude has brought us this far.

This is to the women who’ve taught us that we can decide and we deserve to make our own decisions. This is to the entire women’s suffrage movement who made it possible for women to voice who or what had a say in the regulation of their bodies. To Ruth Bader Ginsburg for being a voice in The Supreme Court for 13 years and standing up for a woman’s right to choose. To Renee Tajima-Peña for directing the 2015 film No Mas Bebes and using it to speak out about the forced sterilizations of Latina women in Los Angeles in the 60s. To the doctors and online communities who use their voices, knowledge and platforms to provide a safe space for other women. To you, reading this. We’re celebrating you for using your voice and making our world a better place for women.

So take a moment to reflect on the influential women in your life. On the woman who helped you schedule your first reproductive health appointment or provided you with resources and information. Or the woman who referred you to her doctor. Let’s celebrate the women who’ve taught you what you know today. Here’s to them.

Own every piece of your life and help others take the first step to own theirs.
